Weekend reading – who is actually authoring your paper?

It isn’t always clear who gets to be assigned or acknowledged as an author (or co-author) of a manuscript. There are tips on teasing out and acknowledging contributions at: http://authorservices.taylorandfrancis.com/defining-authorship/

Environmental Education Research is a member of COPE, the Committee on Publication Ethics. The standards we follow are set out in section 6 of the International Standards for Authors:

http://publicationethics.org/resources/international-standards-for-editors-and-authors

These include:

  • Authors should take collective responsibility for submitted and published work.

  • The authorship of research publications should accurately reflect individuals’ contributions to the work and its reporting.

If you need more on this – perhaps if you can anticipate there’s a difficult conversation to be had with someone – perhaps brush up on the detail of these standards some time soon? And possibly, check out the cases and advice at: http://bit.do/manuscriptauthorship
